Deerhound

The deerhound been around a long time and, as the name suggests, was originally bred to aid in the hunting of deer. The long-legged sighthounds traditionally use their speed to hunt with. They are relatively low maintenance compared with some of the other giant breeds and have a quiet and dignified demeanour. They are generally great with kids and make an excellent family pet. Deerhound Pics This breed is fantastic with children and is a very loyal pet. Their temperament can be variable, some a completely docile and need little discipline, others will continually push the boundaries. These dogs can easily clear an average sized fence, and have poor traffic sense, so it is important that you have a secure area to keep your dog in. The average lifespan is around 7 years, but they can live for up to 10 years with the right diet, genetics and lifestyle. They usually grow to about 70-75 cm in height and weigh between 40 and 50 kgs in peak condition.
