The Fox Terrier Dog Breed is of the most energetic, intelligent little breeds that you will come across. They constantly want to play and can be taught to chase balls for hours and hours on end. They love playing sports, walking and exercising in general. They come in 2 varieties, the “smooth-coat” or “short-haired” variety, which is shown on this page and the “wire-coated” variety. The wire-coated version needs regular clipping and grooming if you want the dog to look as an example of its breed should, but I know many people that are happy letting the hair grow naturally.

This is a great pet for an energetic, older child getting their first dog or really anyone with a lot of energy who wants a playful little dog. Foxies really need an owner that will be able to spend a lot of time with them, or they can get quite bored. They are a fantastic family pet for an active family.

The average lifespan is around 12 years, but they can live for up to 15 years with the right diet, genetics and lifestyle.

They usually grow to about 34-40 cm in height and weigh between 7 and 8.5 kgs in peak condition.
