German Shorthaired Pointer Pics The breed was created in the 17th Century through the crossing of a Bloodhound and a Spanish Pointer. Its loyalty, personality and general “joie de vivre” make it currently one of the most popular breeds in the world. Like other sporting breeds such as the Pointer, the English Springer Spaniel, the English Setter, the Hungarian Vizsla, the Irish Setter, and the Gordon Setter, these dogs enjoy frequent company with their master. They are not breeds for people who are going to be at work all day and want a dog that will be happy alone in the back yard. The average lifespan is around 14 years, but they can live for up to 16 years with the right diet, genetics and lifestyle. They usually grow to about 64-70 cm in height and weigh between 20 and 25 kgs in peak condition. Sorry, there are no photos at this stage. German Wire-Haired PointerThe German Wire-Haired Pointer is a shaggy version of the Short-Haired Pointer and is a versatile hunting dog that is also fantastic with children. They are probably a bit more outgoing than their German Short-Haired counterparts, but are very obedient to commands when trained well.
