Gordon Setter

The Gordon Setter has a wonderful combination of Beauty and Brains. It belongs to the Gun Dog family and is has great bird sense. They need regular grooming and exercise, but make a great family pet. The breed will generally adopt their owner’s attitude to strangers, but is loyal, loving and protective to their own family. Gordon Setter Pics The breed originated in Scotland and was named after the 4th Duke of Gordon, who used to favour these black and tan beauties over all the other dogs in his kennels. The breed probably dates back to the late 17th Century. Like other sporting breeds such as the Pointer, the English Springer Spaniel, the English Setter, the German Shorthaired Pointer, the Irish Setter, and the Hungarian Vizsla, these dogs enjoy frequent company with their master. They are not breeds for people who are going to be at work all day and want a dog that will be happy alone in the back yard. The average lifespan is around 12 years, but they can live for up to 14 years with the right diet, genetics and lifestyle. They usually grow to about 62-68 cm in height and weigh between 25 and 32 kgs in peak condition.
