Griffon Bruxellois

Griffon Bruxellois, Griffon Dog Breed, Griffon, Grifon,

The Griffon Bruxellois is a relatively unusual breed, but the few I have met have been very friendly and happy little dogs, with definite terrier characteristics. They have a wonderful whiskered face and moustache, which makes them very endearing. They require minimal maintenance and are a great companion for older people and families.

They were originally bred to catch rodents in Brussels’ stables, but today can make an adorable and loving pet. These dogs are what you choose to make them – if you are willing to invest time training them whilst they are young, you will have an obedient friend for life. If, on the other hand, you choose to let your puppy get away with anything, you will have an unruly, bossy dog when it grows up. They are well suited to agility and other forms of training.

The average lifespan is around 15 years, but they can live for up to 17 years with the right diet, genetics and lifestyle.

They usually grow to about 20-28 cm in height and weigh between 3 and 8 kgs in peak condition.
