Japanese Chin

Japanese Chin, Chin Dog, Japanese Chin Dog Breed

The Japanese Chin is an exceptionally social little dog with well formed views on what it likes and what it dislikes. It has beautiful oriental looks and its fountain-like tail is head-turning after a good groom. It is important to spend time training these dogs whilst they are young.

The breed seems to have it all in terms of being a great pet; it looks great, it is low maintenance, has a lovely temperament and even has Royal heritage – Queen Alexandra used to own hundreds of these little dogs. The breed itself has been around for centuries, probably dating back to more than 1200 years ago in ancient China. They enjoy the company of other Chins, and don’t like being left alone, so if you are considering buying one of these little dogs, it might even be worth getting 2!

The average lifespan is around 16 years, but they can live for up to 18 years with the right diet, genetics and lifestyle.

They usually grow to about 25-30 cm in height and weigh between 2 and 5 kgs in peak condition.

Sorry, there are no photos at this stage. If you have a great example of this breed please email me at dr.caroline@hotmail.co.uk and I will put it up on the site!
