Labrador Retriever

The Labrador Retriever is probably most famous for its role as guide dog for the blind. This role shows how intelligent these dogs really are. They can learn hundreds of commands with regular and consistent training and are a very popular family choice. In fact they have been the most popular breed in the United States for many years. Labs are absolutely gorgeous as puppies and have starred on many a television commercial. Labrador Retriever Pics The breed was originally bred to retrieve large fish from Newfoundland waters in the early 1800’s. They are renowned for being eager to please and having very strong scenting skills. This scenting ability and the high level of trainability of these dogs makes them very useful as police dogs and in customs roles. The average lifespan is around 12 years, but they can live for up to 15 years with the right diet, genetics and lifestyle. They usually grow to about 55-60 cm in height and weigh between 30 and 40 kgs in peak condition.
