Old English Sheepdogs

As the name suggests, Old English Sheepdogs were originally bred as a sheep dog, but they are now mostly just a loyal family pet. It is a very suitable breed for young children and they are adorable as puppies. Pics of Old English Sheepdogs In Australia the breed is also known as the ‘Dulux Dog’ as there was a Dulux Paint Advertising Campaign that starred one of these characteristic dogs. They look a bit like big hairy bears and will probably need a clip and groom in the summer months to stop their shaggy coat from matting and to keep the dog cool. The average lifespan is around 8-9 years, as it is for other giant breeds, but they can live for up to 11 years with the right diet, genetics and lifestyle. They usually grow to about 55-62 cm in height and weigh between 25 and 45 kgs in peak condition.
