Rottweiler

The Rottweiler was used in as a guard dog in Germany at the turn of the Century. It is still used as a guard dog, but in many families is just a lovable, loyal pet these days. It is imperative that these dogs are well trained and socialized, as they are big strong dogs and can get out of hand if they are badly behaved. Rottweiler Pics The breed originated in Roman times, so is one of the oldest breeds of dogs around today. During these times, the breed was purely a working dog, used for protection and driving cattle. Today, still, many of the breed are working dogs, with roles including guard dogs and police dogs. I would recommend this breed for young adults; specifically active people that feel confident with their dog-training abilities. If there are young children in the family, they need to be educated to treat the dog consistently and firmly and should be actively involved in its training. The breed can be predisposed to some medical conditions, such as elbow dysplasia and osteoarthritis, so it is important to check family history of disease if you are buying a purebred Rotty. The average lifespan is around 11 years, but they can live for up to 13 years with the right diet, genetics and lifestyle. They usually grow to about 56-68 cm in height and weigh between 42 and 50 kgs in peak condition.
