Samoyed

The Samoyed makes a lovely family pet. Their thick white coat and happy-go-lucky demeanor make them very attractive dogs; a real head turner at the local park! They need plenty of regular walks and lots of grooming if you don’t want white hair all over the house. They are strong dogs and need to be trained on the lead if you want lead walking to be enjoyable. Samoyed Pics The breed is native to Siberia and was introduced to the rest of the world in the late 1800’s when it was taken on Antarctic and Arctic expeditions to pull sledges. The breed shares its name with the Tribe that originally used the dog in the North West of Siberia. The dogs’ main roles were to herd reindeer, hunt and as sledge dogs. This breeds suits a household that will be able to give the dog a lot of attention. They revel in taking part in all aspects of your daily life and will not be happy if they are left alone for long periods. They enjoy the company of other dogs if they are introduced whilst they are young, but older dogs that have not been socialized are more interested in spending time with humans than other dogs. The average lifespan is around 11 years, but they can live for up to 13 years with the right diet, genetics and lifestyle. They usually grow to about 46-55 cm in height and weigh between 20 and 30 kgs in peak condition.
