The Toy Poodle is a great choice if you are after a designer dog with brains! They are easy to train and have a friendly and lively personality and just love getting out and about to parade their fabulous hairdos. They are alert and responsive and make a great little watchdog, usually being very vocal if any unusual sounds occur during the night. It is important that this breed knows that the human is the top dog, or they can become bossy and grumpy. Any effort spent training this breed will be well rewarded in the long run.

Poodles are an exceptionally intelligent breed of dog, something that many people don’t realize due to the rather ‘over-the-top’ grooming that we sometimes see with the breed. The traditional clipping of Miniature Poodles was originally to help their movement through water, as historically they were water retrievers. I have met many poodles in my time and am yet to meet one that I don’t like.

The average lifespan is around 11 years, but they can live for up to 13 years with the right diet, genetics and lifestyle.

They usually grow to about 20-25 cm in height and weigh between 2 and 4 kgs in peak condition.
